easypatchwork Advanced Sampler
Thinking back on all of the hundreds of quilts that I have made, my most favorite so far has to be my advanced sampler. It took three years to make this quilt from start to finish. It began as a group project in my Wednesday night sewing group. All of us were to make the same quilt with twelve blocks measuring 40cm x 40cm. This is way too big for me, so I redesigned everything in the quilt using my handy-dandy EQ7 program. I tried to keep the basic technique of each block as in the original.
I learned as many techniques as I could from hand embroidery applique stitching to inset seams. Some of these were really tricky too. I think the worst one was the self-made Mariner's Compass that came out 1/2" bigger than it should have, because I used templates instead of foundation paper piecing. I learned. I learned.
This quilt is also the largest I have made so far. It almost covers my California King-sized bed when put on sideways. It uses Fandango Fabric designed by Kate Spain for Moda Fabric. It was beautifully and gracefully quilted by Sabine Feldmann of Quilt-Oase in Nersingen, Germany.
Thank you for stopping by and reading about my favorite quilt.
